The tambourine held by the model and the soaring clothing indicate that it must be the portrait of an actress or more likely a dancer. The late nineteenth century wanted to recognize in this work the portrait of Marie-Anne Cupis, called Mademoiselle Camargo, which is impossible because the illustrious dancer died in 1770 and it was painted around 1785-1786.
