Scriverius var en fremtredende historiker, dikter og lærd av klassisk litteratur. Hans kone, Anna van der Aar, var datter av en byråd i Leiden. In 1626 den nederlandske maleren Frank Hals created the piece of art. The painting measures the size: 8 3/4 x 6 1/2 tommer (22,2 x 16,5 cm).
